Musculoskeletal conditions cause severe long-term pain and physical disability. In particular, chronic lower back pain (LBP) is defined as pain and discomfort localised between the costal margin and above the gluteal muscles. A recent systematic review of research investigated the outcomes of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on adults with chronic LBP, comparing the efficacy of the Pilates method treatment to no treatment and other physical exercise interventions. The review found that of 21 randomised controlled trials, 20 showed a reduction in LBP after pilates rehabilitation programs.
They concluded that pilates improves muscular strength and endurance, and was overall effective in reducing chronic LBP.
If you suffer from LBP, pilates classes may help to reduce pain and discomfort, and significantly improve your quality of life! Call 0407 015 818 today or visit our website at jmiwellness.wix.com/jmiwellness for more information and to book a class!
